It's the thought that counts... Chapter seven

Crack

Mayowa stood still in the vacuum of nothingness and darkness only able to see Luci by her side, "Where are we?" she asked.

"We are somewhere in your subconscious mind" Luci answered.

"But why?" she asked again.

"It would be easier this way for me to show you what you really need to know, now keep quiet and watch" Luci said snapping his fingers. A small white crack appeared at the center of the darkness trying to force open a new reality.

"What's happening?" Mayowa asked but got no answer from Luci, the crack grew wider and wider as the light forced its way through. Mayowa's heartbeat began to race faster with every increase in the crack, she turned her eyes to Luci who did nothing but sip his tea.

"Brother Bola, can I ask you something?" the voice said stilling Mayowa's heartbeat, it had sounded so familiar to her. Her head began running images like programmes in a computer and then it came to her.

"Morèmí!" Mayowa said as the crack gave way, revealing the new scenery which overlapped the darkness.

"We are here" Luci said allowing Mayowa to roam free. The room had walls painted Irish green, a ceiling made with polished wood which had carvings of images of mystical beasts and some historical findings. On the walls were patterned paintings which had been done by the hands of its owner with black colored paint, which seemed to make the room more attractive to the eye. The furniture were old and worn out but the mattress had been recently changed, on it laid Bola and beside him sat his little sister, Morèmí.

"What is this? I thought she died years ago in the accident?" Mayowa asked staring at Luci who had now sat at the reading table, covered by layers of opened books with a laptop at it's center.

"I had to play with the laws of time a little, so I brought them to your subconsciousness." he said sipping his tea.

"What for?" she asked.

"Yes Morè, what do you want to know this time?" Bola asked turning to his little sister.

"Well the thing is, I know it's none of my business but I have kind of noticed the way..." Morèmí hesitated biting her lower lip, her brother had never liked being questioned about matters pertaining to his social life and she knew this.

"The way what?" he asked sitting up from his position.

"Promise me you won't get angry with me" she asked as she used her fingers to play with her ponytail.

"I promise, now spill it" Bola said.

"Okay, I was just wondering if you and Aunty Mayowa were boyfriend and girlfriend?".

"And what gave you that idea?".

"It's because you both behave like dad and mom does" she answered embarrassed by the words that came out of her mouth.

Bola stared at her face and then roared loud with laughter making her regret even more.

"Why are you laughing at me?" she asked tugging at his shirt.

"It's nothing, I'm sorry but the thing is Mayowa and I are just close friends" Bola said.

"But I heard her telling Aunty Chizoba that she likes you and wants to be your girlfriend".

Bola laughed even louder than before and said, "I know she likes me but she is not my type".

"Will you tell her so she will not feel bad?" she asked.

"I'm sorry but I can't" Bola answered looking rather serious than before.

"But Brother why?" she asked.

Bola turned to the table which Luci was seated as if noticing his presence, he then turned to his sister and said, "Learn from this Morè, in this generation boys use girls like Mayowa for different reasons. They are like tools which need to be used to fulfill our desires. Besides if I tell her I don't feel the same then she will still insist on being with me or worse leave me and become another boy's tool. The boy may even do bad things to her, so I'm indirectly helping her out".

These words drew tears from Mayowa's eyes, the boy she had thought was ignorant of her feelings only saw her as a tool to be used. "Take me out of here!" she ordered.

"But we are only just getting to the best part yet" Luci said pointing at Bola who had mounted his sister now.

"The only one I love is you" Bola said planting a kiss on her lips, in the process scarring Mayowa's heart.
