It's the thought that counts... Chapter eleven

Modern kitchen

'Click! Click! Click!' sounded the door as Mayowa's father opened the locks on it, gently he pushed the door wide open letting out the scent of abandonment from within. The house itself had not housed anyone since the incident with Mayowa's mother which had been over three months now. The doctors had discharged her mother early that morning, allowing them to take her home to get some family loving, in order to have a much faster recovery.

"Welcome home mom" Mayowa said dressed in a maid's uniform with an apron, a nose mask and some gloves on, she climbed down the stairs to welcome her mother. She had been asked by her father to leave the hospital earlier than them, in order to clean up the house and prepare it for their return.

Her mother smiled warmly still unable to speak properly. She had been instructed by the doctor  not to stress her vocal cord as it hadn't healed up completely, at least not to the extent of being able to be used for talking.

"Mayowa did you finish the task I gave to you?" her father asked with a stern look.

"Not completely, I have clean up most of the rooms but the kitchen is still in a mess, I was about to clean it up now" Mayowa answered.

"I'll be taking your mother to the bedroom now, she still needs to have some rest like the doctor instructed." he said taking his wife by the hand "don't disturb her okay?".

"Okay Sir." she said forcing a smile on her face.

"Let's go" he said taking her up the stairs one step at a time.

"Thank God!" She said heaving a sigh of relief as the went out of sight. She turned her attention towards the kitchen door and with a deep breath, began walking towards the kitchen.

"What are you now? A maid?" Luci asked startling her as he entered into the kitchen.

"Jesus!" Mayowa yelled in shock, right before banging the door behind her, "what the hell is wrong with you?".

"What?".

"You really should stop doing that" Mayowa said agitated.

"Doing what?".

"You know, appearing in front of me without caution, I could easily have an heart attack, you know?" she said holding her palm over her chest.

"That's not even possible for someone your own age" Luci said taking his seat on the kitchen table.

"I'm pretty sure it is, I've seen it happen on the news, twitter, Facebook and even Instagram, young people like me do have heart attacks, most of them are from too much cholesterol though" she said.

Luci grinned and said "those weren't just ordinary heart attacks, many were probably caused by me and some where his doing" he paused and caressed the tip of his cup with his fingers and continued "well you see humans have a tendency of praying for the worst for their fellow humans".

"Who is this He you mentioned?" she asked making air quotes with her fingers.

His face became grim as he said "you don't wanna know, just mentioning his name can cause great misfortune for anyone" and then with a simple smile his face lightened back up "Well it's a good thing I'm stronger than he is, although his methods tend to creep me out a lot".

"Hmm, someone that even the devil is afraid of" Mayowa said rubbing her fingers against her chin.

"I'm not scared of him, he is just too psychotic for my own taste" he said sipping the tea, his smile suddenly turned into a frown, "Something's missing" he said whisking the cup of sugar from the counter, he scooped some into his cup and took another sip. His renewed grin showed his satisfaction.

"The devil calling someone else psychotic, that's rich coming from someone who's been torturing me for months" Mayowa said.

"Dear one, you can't compare my tactics to his, he is much more cruel than I am. On a scale of one to ten, I'm a six and he is a hundred, not because he is more powerful. No not at all, it's because he doesn't know when to stop" Luci said.

"Now you've got me more intrigued" she said wondering when she grew so comfortable enough to talk to Luci so familiarly.

"Don't be" he said.

"Now you really have to tell me his name".

"Why would I?" Luci asked.

"Because if you don't, then I'll....I'll kill myself" she answered shocking herself with her own words. Months ago she would have thought twice before saying those words, but now it came so easily to her like it was nothing.

"I'll just bring you back to life".

"Then I won't do whatever you ask".

"I don't need you to, I could just take full control when I want to, or did you forget our contract?".

"Oh jeez, just tell me already" she begged.

"I don't think this will be useful to you in anyway but I guess I can..."

'Ring! Ring! Ring!' Mayowa's phone rang interrupting Luci, she reached for it and after a quick glance, a smile came upon her face.

"Charlie!" she screamed.
